  • What I'm Reading: The Poisonwood Bible
  • Latest Great Flick: May 6 @ 8pm EST

I wanted to thank Leah for all her GREAT input about haircare!!  Take time to read over her comments in the last post.  I have actually tried the "conditioner only" regime- but I don't seem to stick with it for some reason.  I AM using a detergent-free shampoo, however, so that's a step in the right direction.  I may go for trying just conditioner again- sure would free up some shelf space in the shower!!  Leah, share away!!  I haven't had a chance to visit the websites you listed- am hoping to get to those later today.  I was participating in a Long Hair Community and got a LOT of great info.

I think my biggest struggle with my hair is what styling products to put in.  Lately I've been getting better results.  I smooth in Pantene "Extra Liso" (it's a hispanic product- which actually is probably more what my hair needs!) and then layer it with Tresemme anti-frizz gel in the black tube.  I don't know if they have 'cones- haven't read the ingredients yet... but for now that combo is working better than anything else I've tried in a while!  I do have VERY thick, curly, frizzy, dry hair.

Anyone else have any great hair tips or secrets you'd like to share??

This morning I spent 2 hours getting a full leg wax at the Aveda Institute (cheaper!!). The things we do for vanity!!  Actually, because I have a pretty generous dose of genetics in the hair department (what's on my head equates to what's on my legs!!  haha!) I am trying to go full-fledged waxing and get away from having to shave every-single-day!!  It will take several months for the hair growth cycle to be in sync, but I am determined to see it through!  Wish me luck!!!

Well, today I need to get some juicing done.  George is out!  I also need to work on some typing for our travel business.  I hope everyone is enjoying this spring day- it is so pretty here!!

Toodles!

6 Cream.

I'm on LHC myself. Small world, eh? I do enjoy my time there but mostly just read and lurk about and to be honest since it came back online it's somehow felt different and not quite as welcoming and warm as it was before. Maybe it's just me. But I definitely don't hang out there as much as I used to. I do love what I have learned there though... but again being totally honest I already knew at least 95% of the things people learn there long long ago. Likely because basically every woman in my family has uber long hair so I grew up knowing about all this stuff anyway.

All that said - using cones or not, if your hair's happy it can't be that bad, right?

I don't have the pain tolerance for waxing. I look at shaving my legs on a daily basis (or every other day... or once a week if I'm feeling particularly lazy LMAO) as "me time" that I can enjoy, rather than looking at it as a bothersome chore. Makes it kinda fun to think of it that way.

That's a good attitude, Leah! :-) Unfortunately, I have very fair skin and very dark hair (on the thicker side)- so even when I shave, it doesn't last, and you can see black spots all over my legs. So I don't feel pretty and I don't feel "clean"- I'm hoping waxing is going to be the answer- the girl told me today that if I stick with it, the hair growth cycle will even out, and I will be able to go 3-4 weeks without waxing. THAT sounds like HEAVEN!! No more prickly legs!! haha!
If waxing doesn't work, then down the road I'd like to look at laser removal. With trying to get my husband to the treatment center, I just don't have a lot of extra money to spend, so that will have to wait. I also want to get my spider veins lasered!! Actually- that's what I've decided I will do for myself when I turn 40 (sooner than I'd like to think! ahhh!!).

I want to find some 'cone free styling produts- all of mine have the in there somewhere in the ingredient list. I'll finish up what I have and then start the ever-arduous search of finding THE perfect hair product!! sigh!

You know, thanks to my thyroid issues... I don't have to shave my legs unless I use my Epi-Pen. I was stung last summer and had a rebound (meaning the first Epi-Pen stopped working and I went into shock again) -- they gave me 'roids like crazy. Two days later I had a chin hair!!!! Ahhhhh!!! I was 23 years old!!! It scared me so bad!!!

I can't find the ingredients for the Pantene stuff online but knowing Pantene it's likely got lots of cones - Pantene loves cones in their products. LOL The tresemme has one cone on the list - which isn't too bad I suppose. I honestly don't know of any cone-free styling products but then I don't even use styling products so it doesn't matter to me. I do use a bit of aloe vera gel now and then to tame fly aways and frizzies. I Goth Rosary conditioner as leave-in (it smells SO good!) and it's cone free and vegan. A bit pricey but totally worth it IMO.

I've heard conflicting reviews/stories on laser hair removal so I'm not sure what to make of that other than knowing for a fact it's uber expensive and it's *not* been proven to be permanent or even safe. You sound like a good candidate for it though with pale skin and dark hair - apparently that's what this method works best on. It doesn't work for redheads no matter the shade of red so even if I wanted to and could afford it I wouldn't be able to get it done, especially since my hair's so light as is my skin.

That's so funny Lacy! I don't even want to talk about facial hair.... ugh!!
I didn't know you had a thyroid issue!

Hmm. aloe vera gel- that's interesting! does it contain alcohol or anything?
Thanks for sharing the sites with me- I watched all the Jessicurl videos and learned some things!! I tried "plunking" yesterday- and LOVED it!!! My hair had spirals all over and not much frizz. Still need to figure out the product situation... not sure if I want to buy hers' (well, I DO- but kind of pricey). Am hoping to find something local that's cheaper but comparable.

I did laser years ago on my arms and really liked it. It's not permanent, but it does cause a definite decrease in hair growth over time and it lasts a good while. A person could get to where they only do 3-4 treatments a YEAR for maintenance. But it's pricey. I'm definitely the ideal candidate! haha!
The other solution would be electrolysis (Lacy- that's a GREAT solution to any chin hairs popping up!!)- I've done that in the past, too- but that takes FOREVER, is pretty painful- like getting stung by a bee over and over- and pricey.
For now, waxing is quick, easy, and relatively cheap- and I really don't mind the pain. I actually wax my own underarms, so I'm BRAVE! haha!

I'm glad plopping/plunking works for you! I have tried it numerous times to enhance my waves and try to encourage them to curl - but it does nothing for me.

You should be able to find aloe vera gel pretty easily in any grocery store, places like K Mart, Wal Mart, Target etc. Especially this time of year, when it's out with the sun tan lotions and stuff, since it's known for sunburn cooling/healing properties. Just make sure you get a clear one, not the stuff that has been tinted blue or green. And check the label - there should be at least one bottle available that's pure aloe vera gel. Fruit Of The Earth is one brand known for being pure aloe vera gel with nothing added to it. If I recall correctly both Banana Boat and Hawaiian Tropic also have pure aloe vera gel in addition to their after sun gels that typically have other ingredients (like alcohol) added. Just check the labels to be sure but generally if it's colored you don't want it (for your hair anyway, for putting on sunburn it's still great) but clear is usually good.
